Wow! that sounds really fucking crazy doesn't it? Well, don't worry, that didn't come to me in a vision or anything; instead that bit of crazy was allegedly revealed to John. It comes from the book of Revelations...you know the last book of the bible. Which is actually my favorite book of the bible because it is filled with drama, serpents, and turning water into wormwood, which reminds me of absinthe.
The bible is chock full of crazy shit like that--check out Ezekiel (filled with stories about egyptians lusting after lovers and fondling virgin breasts). This is stuff that if you heard a dirty person pushing a shopping cart saying it you would think that person is batshit crazy. Yet, this bat shit crazy stuff is part of George Bush's foreign policy: he believes that god wants everyone to be free.Sarah palin bases lots of her energy policies on "god's will". The really crazy part of this is that a large amount of Americans wouldn't think that was too crazy at all.
WTF. It's totally normal to believe that, after a little disagreement with god, a man named johah was swallowed by a big fish, lived there for 3 days and nights, and was subsequently vomited out, but it's absurd to believe that Dennis Kucinich saw a UFO.
I don't care if you (or anybody) belives that god knocked up a virgin then sent an angel down to explain it all to her husband or if you believes that santa claus delivers presents to all children on December 24--both are about equally likely to be true, what I do care about is that people base a whole host of very important decisions on totally irrational beliefs in religion--and refuse to even consider that such a belief might be totally irrational. (sorry, muffie, pray for me if you want). Totally irrational beliefs should not be shaping our foreign policy, our decisions about who can get married, and as Thomas Jefferson noted "Christianity neither is, nor ever was a part of the common law."
